THE DESIGN PROCESS
Where an Idea Becomes One-of-One

Every handbag begins with an idea—sometimes inspired by a color, a texture, a shape, or simply something that catches my eye. I sketch, experiment, and allow the design to take shape as I work. I’m not designing for mass production or the next hundred bags. I’m creating one piece, for one future owner, with its own personality and story.

Materials Chosen with Intention

The materials are part of the story. I thoughtfully select leathers, textiles, hardware, and finishes for their beauty, quality, texture, and the character they bring to a design. Some combinations are bold, others unexpected—but each is chosen because it belongs to that particular piece.

When I find the right combination, the bag begins to come alive.

Every Josanne Murer handbag is handcrafted by me, one at a time. From cutting and construction to stitching, edge finishing, hardware, and the smallest details, my hands are part of every step.

I am a self-taught artisan, and I continue to learn with every piece I make. To me, that is part of the beauty of handmade work: the craft continues to evolve, while the soul of the maker remains.
MADE TO BE CARRIED
Where Beauty Meets Function

A beautiful handbag should still work beautifully in real life. As I create, I consider how the bag opens, closes, carries, and feels in the hand or on the shoulder. Straps, closures, pockets, structure, and balance are considered with both beauty and everyday use in mind.

Because a statement piece shouldn't simply be admired.

It should be carried.

The Final Piece

When the final stitch is placed and the last detail is finished, that design is complete—and I don't make it again.
